The Promise

Nineteen years ago, I made a promise out of desperation.  I was 12 weeks pregnant and like my two previous pregnancies that ended in miscarriages, I had spotting.  My OB told me to take a leave from work and rest for two weeks.  I took his advice to the extreme and dropped everything for the next 27 weeks.

It was during one of those 27 weeks that I became so hopelessly desperate (because of the re-appearance of spotting)  that I promised God I would serve Him on the condition He'd let my baby be born.  He answered my prayers and I gave birth to Daniel on May 6, 1990.  It wasn't an easy delivery but Jun and I finally held him in our arms.   It was a perfect moment to end the three long years of waiting.

Three months before Daniel's 1st birthday, God reminded me of the promise I made to Him through an office mate who invited Jun and me to attend a  Christian Life Program for couples.  We both went.  After 13 sessions, we decided to accept the invitation to join their community for couples.  I realized then that this was how God wanted me to serve Him... with my husband.

We've been in the community for the past 18 years; serving the Lord in whatever capacity we are called to do.  I've gone the extra mile by also serving in the family ministry for women.  I don't know where the Lord will take us next.  All I know is He has given me the grace to keep my promise to Him and He will continue to do so.
